Helping You Turn

Wandering into Wonder

So many of us wander about, life zooming by as we aimlessly search for purpose and peace.  For many, there’s faith to fill that void, and it is the firm foundation beneath me.  There’s no shield, however, from the tough stuff that leaves brokenness. It still comes.  But how to fight your way out, to leave the wandering in the dust and trade up for wonder?

The Back Story

Several years ago, as I emerged from my own season of broken, I had no concrete idea or plan.   I navigated through all my fissures and fault lines, and knew I was in search of my own voice.  I was propelled to begin writing, and eventually decided to share it – thus the little blog of Just Being Bing was birthed.

But practically, what did it look like to stop wandering around in a shadow of darkness, and rise up and find my way forward? What did I do to move from broken to new life?

I took a road trip.  For two weeks.  By myself.

I  poured myself and my stuff in the car, put it in drive, and went forward.

Where did I go?  Nowhere.  Everywhere.  I drove 3,000 miles and purposefully stayed off any highways, driving only on roads where people live.  Where life happens.

What did I find?   People – real people.  Crazy weird little pieces of American life that are invisible at 75 mph.  More importantly, I found peace, rest, deep breaths, contentment – I found me.  It all came first in small doses, and then in waves.  I slowed down, soaked in every little thing, and just drove.

Those two weeks of wandering began the shift that turned my world towards wonder.

Bing

Hey there!   I’m Beth . . .

For as long as I can remember, close friends have called me “Bing”.  The name has always been a fun part of me, so I embraced it in creating my business.

I’m also Beth Marie (when I’m in deep trouble) or my favorite name, “Mom”, but you can call me Bing!

When I’m not roadtripping with my sidekick golden retriever, Lexi, home is a Civil War era farmhouse just up the road from Gettysburg, in the hills above the sprawling Cumberland Valley.  (Lexi has her own page – check it out!)

Both at home and on the road, I am constantly on the hunt for joy and wonder.  Good old-fashioned roadtripping has provided a natural way for me to see the world anew – most notably in the little things I formerly was in too big of a rush to appreciate in the day-to-day.  Hitting the road also played a pretty huge factor in finding my way out of a pretty dark place.

Of course it isn’t all sunsets and perfect coffee shops – lots of things have gone wrong! (I’m pretty sure I’ve only tipped the iceberg in that department.)  For all my planning, it’s the unexpected moments and meltdowns that typically provide the best memories and greatest lessons.

Humor definitely helps!  I’m pretty sassy and sarcastic, which no doubt comes through loud and clear in my writing – fair warning!

My mission is to help people open their eyes and see the beauty in the ashes, and also in the everyday.  Throughout these pages, you’ll find tons of ways to pave your own way to a world of wonder.  Happy wandering!
