If you read many travel blogs, you’ll likely notice that most hope to stand out by finding a niche that makes them unique. Maybe their blog appeals just to people who live in Pittsburgh, or they travel only to countries with the letter “A” in them :). Maybe they always stay in hostels in Europe, or only explore places where they can kayak. Everybody’s got a “thing”.

At Just Being Bing, my “thing” isn’t a thing at all, but a she. At 3 years old, Lexi the Golden is 55 pounds of white golden fur and attitude. Her arrival in my life was pure serendipity, and now I can’t imagine going very far without her.

Our story together began in November 2018, and I’m hopeful that almost all of it has yet to be lived and written.

Summer 2021 – Heading West

One Glorious Golden Month

Lexi the Golden and I traveled almost 8,000 from Central PA to the Pacific and back. This blond girl swam in every body of water from the Susquehanna River to the Pacific Ocean – sparkling lakes, freezing streams, rushing rivers – she loved them all.

Traveling with Lexi is like being the sidekick to a minor movie star. I become blissfully invisible as everyone fusses over her, offers treats and asks to pose for photos. She embraces every moment.

If we are in a small town, by day three everyone knows her by name. It’s the weirdest thing. There’s just something about this girl.

She’s confident, extraordinarily friendly (there are times when she doesn’t grasp the social cues if not everyone wants to love on her) and enjoys life on the road every single day.
